The porosity of the tile is how many pores are in the tile and how much water they will absorb, when in their natural state. For example, the porosity of ceramic and porcelain tiles is low, which can make them perfect for your bathroom. They aren't going to need to be sealed to be used, which will also make them pretty maintenance free. However, some stone tiles have a higher porosity, which means you are going to need to make sure that they are sealed so that they aren't damaged by the wet and humidity in your bathroom.

Another thing that you are going to want to think about when you are choosing tile for your bathroom is how slippery they are, especially when it comes to the floors. There are tiles that are really pretty to look at, and which may work really well for accent tiles, but which would be really bad for your floor. One example of that is glass tiles. Glass tiles can be very pretty, and can add a translucence to your bathroom, but when it comes to walking on them when they are wet can be risky because they are slippery. If you feel like you absolutely need to have glass tiles for your floors, you may want to look into using them on a limited basis, as a way to accent other tiles, or you may want to see if they can be slightly texturized so that you can get better traction when you are walking on them.
